ARCATA, Calif. — A sizzling open set wasn't enough to lift Cal State Monterey Bay to victory as the Otters fell in their California Collegiate Athletic Association opener to Humboldt State Wednesday night in Lumberjack Arena.
CSUMB rolled to a 25–15 win in Set 1 before Humboldt rallied to win 25–17, 25–20, 27–25.
The Otters hit .417 in the opening frame. But the Lumberjacks led comfortably throughout the second to even the match. CSUMB couldn't hold a late in the in the third set.
The Otters rallied late in what proved to be the final set, saving a pair of match points befor an untimely hitting error gave Humboldt the win.

Kaylie Honberger (Rocklin/Whitney HS) and junior
Jenna Tobin (Modesto/Gregori HS) led the Otter offense with 12 and 10 kills respectively. Freshman
Madi Lombardi (Carmel HS) led three Otter defenders in double figures with 14 digs.
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… a Lennox Loving kill and an Otter hitting error snapped a 25–25 tie in the fourth set.
HONBERGER WITH THE DOUBLE–DOUBLE… Freshman
Kaylie Honberger notched her third double–double of the season and second in three matches with 12 kills and 12 digs Wednesday at Humboldt State. The 12 digs matched her season high set previously versus Western Oregon and Hawaii–Hilo.
LOMBARDI STILL DIGS IT… Freshman libero
Madi Lombardi kept her streak of double–figure digs going with a team–high 14 Wednesday at Humboldt State. She has double–figure digs in all eight matches to begin her collegiate career.
