Kilgore’s Golden Goal Lifts Otters Over WOU, 1–0

CSUMB is now 4–0–0 for the first time in program history

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer is off to the best start in program history after Lia Kilgore's (San Francisco/Mission HS) overtime laser gave the Otters to a 1–0 win over Western Oregon Saturday night at the Otter Sports Complex.

The win lifts CSUMB's record to 4–0–0. The Otters' previous best mark after four matches was 3–1–0 during the 2012 season.

Saturday's affair was a defensive struggle. The teams combined for just 16 shots—nine for the Wolves and six for the Otters—although both WOU goalkeeper Alex Qualls and CSUMB keeper Alyssa Noh (Aliso Niguel HS) made key stops when called upon.

The contest seemed destined to end in a draw until the Otters kicked off in overtime. Qualls came out to deny an early Otter chance, but Kilgore controlled the ensuing punt and fed a long pass to Ale Gonzalez (Concord/College Park HS) sprinting down the right wing.

Gonzalez's return pass found Kilgore just inside penalty area. Kilgore's venomous one–timer left Qualls no chance.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Lia Kilgore roofed a one–timer over Alex Qualls head in the 92nd minute.

SOMETHING GOLD CAN STAY… With apologies to Robert Frost (LINK), the Otters have remained golden in so far in 2019. CSUMB has two golden–goal victories in its first four games. It's the first time they done that since the 2012 team posted a school–record three such wins.

FOUR AND OH… The Otters are 4–0–0 for the first time in program history. The 2012 team owned the previous record for best start at 3–1–0. For what it's worth, the Otters have never been 4–1–0, so they are guaranteed their best–ever record through at least five games.

ANOTHER CLEAN SHEET… Alyssa Noh posted the ninth clean sheet of her career, giving her sole possession of the No. 2 spot on the Otter career list. Melissa Moen set the CSUMB record with 11 shutouts from 2002–05.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… GOALS: Lia Kilgore 1; ASSISTS: Ale Gonzalez 1; POINTS: Lia Kilgore 2; SHOTS: Lia Kilgore 3; SAVES: Alyssa Noh 5.

THE LAST WORD… "Our great depth and team chemistry is helping us get results against some really tough teams. While the goal was truly special, it was a team win tonight." – CSUMB Head Coach Laura VanWart

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters head to Wine Country to face Dominican University Monday (Sept. 16) for a 2 p.m. kickoff. Links for video and live stats will be available on OtterAthletics.com.
