Otters Drop Doubleheader At Chico State

CSUMB splits series with Wildcats following 5–0, 4–3 defeats

CHICO, Calif. — After rain wiped out to consecutive attempts at completing its series at Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay dropped a doubleheader to the Wildcats, 5–0 and 4–3, Monday afternoon at Nettleton Stadium.

The Otters fell victim to the first 1–hit, complete game shutout in Chico history when Wildcat starter Grant Larson fanned 10 and walked just one to win Monday's opener. Kyle Dean's (Rancho Bernardo HS/BYU) 1–out double in the fourth inning spoiled his no–hit bid.

Chico scored three times in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie in the nightcap. An RBI double by TJ Dove (Yuba CC) and a 2–out, run–scoring single Kokko Figueiredo (Fortuna HS) cut two runs off the deficit in the seventh. Kyle Czaplak (Pacific Grove HS) scored on a balk to tie the game in the eighth before Chico scored again in the home half of the inning to account for the winning run.

CSUMB returns home to host a 4–game series against Stanislaus State Mar. 8–10. The series kicks off with a single game Friday with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Otter Sports Complex.
