Otters Split With No. 20 San Bernardino To Open Series

Courtney Hennings inches closer to 100 RBI; Hayley Fein homers, tosses 4–hitter to win Game 1

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A strong first game from junior Hayley Fein (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) led visiting Cal State Monterey Bay to a split at No. 20 Cal State San Bernardino Friday at the CSUSB Softball Park. The Otters took the opener 4–1 before falling 12–5 in the nightcap.

Fein did it all in the opener. In the circle, she tossed a 4–hit complete game for her eighth win of the season. She added three hits, including her team–leading third home run of the season, to cap her effort.

The second game started well for CSUMB as a 2–run double in the first by Lusi Stanley (San Bruno/Howard College) and a 2–run single by Korina Krueg (Lodi/Cosumnes River College) helped the Otters race to a 5–0 lead. But San Bernardino put up seven runs in its half of the second and the Otters never recovered.

GAME 1 WAS OVER WHEN OVER WHEN… Courtney Hennings' RBI single plated Korina Krueg to make a 4–1 Otters in the sixth.

GAME 2 WAS OVER WHEN OVER WHEN… Marissa Hukkanen lined out to first base with two runners on, ending the sixth. It was the last time the Otters brought the potential tying or go–ahead run to the plate.

THEY'RE A HIT… Although they had to settle for a split, the Otters out–hit San Bernardino 9–8 in Game 2 and 21–12 for the doubleheader.

FEIN ONE AWAY FROM NUMBER TWO… Hayley Fein won her 54th game in an Otter uniform in Friday's first game. She needs one more win to tie Lindsey Clarkson for No. 2 on the CSUMB career wins list. Cori Reinhardt holds the CSUMB record with 86 wins.

FEIN ONE FROM 300… With four strikeouts Friday, Hayley Fein pushed her career strikeout total to 299. She is about to become the fourth pitcher in Otter history to record 300 career strikeouts.

HENNINGS INCHES CLOSER TO 100… Courtney Hennings drove in a pair of runs Friday—one in each game— to raise her career total to 96. She needs four more to become the ninth player in Otter history to reach 100 RBI.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… Hayley Fein (W [8–5], CG, 4 H, 1 R, 4 K; 2x7, HR [3]. R, 2 RBI); Savannah Salyer Kovacs (4x5, 2B, 2 R); Courtney Hennings (3x5, R, 2 RBI); Marissa Hukkanen (2x6, R, SB); Lusi Stanley 2x6, 2B, 2 RBI_

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will wrap-up their 4–games series at San Bernardino with a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m.
