Cold Shooting Night Sinks Otters In 78–67 Loss At FPU

Damian Wilson scores 16, Tommy Kramer has a career–high 11 for CSUMB

FRESNO, Calif. — A cold–shooting first half and a glacial start to the second proved too much to overcome as Cal State Monterey Bay fell at Fresno Pacific 78–67 Tuesday night in the FPU special Events Center.

The Otters shot just 12–for–40 in the opening 20 minutes then scored just nine points in the first 11–plus minutes of the second. In this contest, CSUMB's normally lethal long–range shooting couldn't turn the tide as the Otters converted just 19.2 percent from beyond the arc before a pair of late treys from Tommy Kramer (Amador Valley HS) pushed the final number over 20 percent.

Despite CSUMB's struggles, Fresno never built its lead to more than 14 points. Without the ability to string buckets together, however, the Otters never seriously threatened to regain the lead down the stretch.

Damian Wilson (Inglewood/Taft HS) led the Otters with 16 points. Kramer (11 points) and Dwight Murray (10) joined him in double figures. Jahvon Johnson (Clovis North HS) led all rebounders with seven.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Adrian Antunez made a pair of free throws with 41 seconds remaining to give Fresno a 76–65 lead.

CAREER–HIGH FOR KRAMER… The 11 points scored by sophomore Tommy Kramer were a collegiate career high. They eclipsed his previous best of 10 points against Cal State L.A. on Dec. 16, 2018.

A TRIFECTA FOR WILSON… Damian Wilson led the Otter offense for the third time in his three appearances, this time by scoring 16 points Tuesday at Fresno Pacific. The last Otter to lead the team in scoring in three consecutive games was Joseph Bosetti, who did it from Feb. 16–28.

THAT'S A WRAP… The Otters put a wrap on their nonconference schedule with Tuesday's game at Fresno Pacific. They finished 3–3 versus nonconference foes, their best such mark since going 4–2 outside the CCAA in the 2014–15 season.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Damian Wilson 16; REBOUNDS: Jahvon Johnson 7; ASSISTS: Jahvon Johnson 3; BLOCKS: None; STEALS: Jahvon Johnson 1.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will return from Thanksgiving and to CCAA action when they travel up Highway 101 to take on Sonoma State Saturday (Nov. 30) in a men's/women's doubleheader. The women will tip–off at 1 p.m. and the men will tip at 3 p.m.
