SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball bid farewell to three seniors following Saturday night following a 25–17, 25–22, 25–19 loss to Sonoma State in The Kelp Bed.

While the match provided CSUMB fans one last chance to see Samantha Brennan, Kyra Galloway and Payton Trimm play as Otters, it was as much about the promise of 2020 as it was a chance to say goodbye.

The senior trio all played a part Saturday—combining for six kills, four digs and an ace—as the Otter youngsters reminded CSUMB fans that bright 2020 campaign is just around the corner. CSUMB will return its top eight kill leaders, five of its top six servers, its top seven blockers and its top 11 back row defenders next season.

As for Saturday's match, Friday's 5–set thriller versus Humboldt State combined with Sonoma have the night off appeared to play a factor. The Otters and Seawolves played tight early in each of the three sets before Sonoma eased away to win each time.

Juniors Jenna Tobin (Modesto/Gregori HS) and Baylie Pierson (Vista Murietta HS) led in the box score once again. Tobin recorded nine kills, seven digs and two aces while Pierson went for11.5 points, including six kills and a career–high five aces.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… A Jenn Trephan kill broke a late Otter run in the third set to give Sonoma a 23–19 lead.

BRENNAN GOES OUT ON TOP… Samantha Brennan hit .428 (11–2–21) in her final collegiate weekend to finish with the top career attack percentage in CSUMB history (.295). Of players with at least 500 career attempts, she leads No. 2 Melanie Lashbrook (2008–11) by 20 points.

SHE'S ACES, CAREER EDITION… Kyra Galloway added a pair of aces to her collection this weekend to finish her career No. 11 on the Otter all–time aces list with 70.

SHE'S ACES, MATCH EDITION… Baylie Pierson caught fire from the service line in the final weekend of the season. After serving two aces Friday night versus Humboldt State, she served a career–high five Saturday vs. Sonoma State. Those five were just one off the CSUMB record of six aces in a 3–set match (a feat achieved by Ashlynne Armstrong, Erica Chapa, Dionna Lucas).

(ALMOST) TOP 10 TOBIN… Jenna Tobin will begin her senior season in 2020 ranked No. 11 on the Otter career kills list with 585. She needs 52 kills to catch Melanie Lashbrook (636, 2008–11) for a spot in the Top 10.

TOBIN JOINS THE 300 CLUB… With nine kills in Saturday's season finale versus Sonoma State, Jenna Tobin became the seventh player in CSUMB history to collect 300 kills in a single season. She finishes her junior campaign with 306 kills.
