SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team continued its early season roll, overcoming a 13–point deficit in the first half to defeat Academy of Art 81–74 Saturday afternoon in the final game of the 2019 Otter Classic.

Junior Maurice Woods (Modesto/Columbia College) led the offense with his second 20–point game of the season, pouring in a game–high 23 Saturday. Jahvon Johnson (Clovis North HS) went 10–for–12 from the line as point of his 14–point day. Sophomores Ben Carter (Adelaide, South Australia) and J.R. Schilling (Lake Oswego [Ore.] HS) led a balanced effort on the glass with six rebounds apiece.

Art raced to an early 13–point before the Otters found their groove. They trimmed the deficit to four (40–36) by halftime then opened the second period with a 17–4 run to take 51–44 lead they would hold for the duration.

The win lifts CSUMB to 3–1 overall. It's their best start since opening the 2014–15 season 3–1. Academy of Art falls to 1–3 with the loss.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Maurice Woods made a pair of free throws to extend the Otters lead to 80–71 win 11 seconds left.
