Two Early Goals Lift Otters To 2–1 Win At Humboldt

Josh Marquez, Adrian Rebollar score; Daniel Lomeli makes four saves for the win

ARCATA, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team scored a pair of early goals then held on to finish its Northern California road swing with a 2–1 win over Humboldt State Sunday at College Creek Field.

The win lifts CSUMB's record to 7–3–1 overall and 2–3–1 in CCAA play. It gave the Otters a crucial three points and denied them to a Humboldt team (6–3–0, 2–5–0) that is battling with CSUMB for a one of six CCAA Tournament bids.

Junior Josh Marquez scored his second collegiate goal and his first of the season in the seventh minute to stake the Otters to a 1–0 lead. Adrian Rebollar doubled the CSUMB lead in the 19th minute by finishing a long cross from Pedro Hernandez.

About the half hour mark, the flow began to change as Humboldt started to carry the play. The Lumberjacks got one goal back via a penalty kick after a foul deep in the CSUMB box in the 34th minute.

Humboldt kept the pressure on, out–shooting the Otters 13–2 in the second half. The Lumberjacks put just three of those shots on frame, however, and senior goalkeeper Daniel Lomeli stopped each of those to secure his third win of the season.

The Otters return to action Friday when they begin their final homestand by hosting Cal State L.A. Kickoff will be at 4:30 p.m. as the opener of men's/women's doubleheader action.
