Otter Women Lead The Way, Post Six PRs At Bronco Invite

| By:

Brooke Roy etches name in record book (again); Ryan Bradley PRs for Otter men

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — The Baylands Park course is known as a fast track. Saturday morning, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's cross country team went extra fast there, posting six personal records at the annual Bronco Invitational.

As usual, sophomore Brooke Roy (Camus [Wash.] HS) led the Otter raft. Her 21:56.0 was both a season and personal record and the 15th fastest time in CSUMB history for a 6K race. Only Hannah Bell and Jessy McIntyre ever ran faster in an Otter uniform.

Roy was far from alone in her altering of the CSUMB best times list. The top five Otter runners all posted season bests Saturday and the top four all set PRs. Following Roy was senior Natalie Vaughn (Corona/Santiago HS) ran a 22:34.0. Junior Arlene Diazleal (Alvarez HS/Hartnell College) ran 23:24.5 and sophomore Hannah Marin (Lancaster/Paraclete HS) clocked in at 23:26.5.

Senior Alex Baron (San Jose/Prospect HS) didn't PR but did run a season best 23:46.7.

Four more Otter women recorded season best times in the open division race, led by junior Kaitlyn Wood (Simi Valley HS), who missed her PR by less than one second with a 24:08.2. Ashlyn Barajas (Eastvale/Ayala HS), Paige Siegel (Vista Murietta HS) and Ashley O'Toole (Simi Valley HS) also posted season best times. Siegel and O'Toole's marks were PRs as well.

In the men's race, Chris Plascencia (Marina HS) continued one of the strongest freshman seasons in program history by leading the Otters with a 25:29.7. Although not a PR, it was the 17th fastest 8K all–time by an Otter and the fourth fastest by a freshman.

Sophomore Nathan Garcia (El Centro/Southwest HS) placed second amongst the CSUMB runners with a 25:53.5. Freshman Ryan Bradley (Sacramento/Sheldon HS) was the lone Otter male to PR Saturday with a 26:00.4

"I was pleased with the results today," says CSUMB Head Coach Greg Rhines. "Many saw PRs — some even after being a little injured or a lot sick. They'll be ready for next week."

CSUMB begins its run of postseason competition Saturday (Oct. 26) when the men's and women's teams head to Humboldt County for the CCAA Cross Country Championship Meet at the Baywood Golf Course in Arcata.
