Levy, Schade Get Otters Back On Track With 3–0 Win

Sierra Levy scores twice, Alyson Schade pitches in shutout at San Francisco State

SAN FRANCISCO — Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer returned to the win column with an impressive 3–0 victory Friday over San Francisco State at SFSU's Cox Stadium. The victory lifts the Otters' record to 7–3–1 overall and 2–3–0 in CCAA play.

Sophomore Sierra Levy (Tulare Western HS) scored the first two Otter goals. Senior defender Alyson Schade (Brea–Olinda HS), filling in in goal for starter Alyssa Noh, made three saves to earn her second shutout in four starts between the pipes.

CSUMB dominated from the outset of the this game, controlling the field in terms of both territory and possession. The early pressure paid off when Levy created a turnover at the top of the Gator box and beat goalkeeper Hayley Garriott one–on–one to give the Otters the early lead.

More defensive pressure created goal number two just past the half hour mark. This time, Alexandra Diaz (Brentwood/Heritage HS) fed Levy on the doorstep for the easy finish.

The Otters had several glorious chances in the second half, but the only one they finished came when Melissa Wilson (Richmond/Campolindo HS) got the last touch on a ball pinged into the mixer in the 61st minute.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Sierra Levy finished from the doorstep in the 32nd minute to make the CSUMB lead 2–0. The Otters maintained control over the final hour and the three points were never in doubt.

LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN… Friday's 3–0 win at San Francisco State was the seventh of the season for the Otter women. The Otters also won seven games in 2018, making this the first time the Otters have posted consecutive 7–win seasons since moving to the NCAA level for the 2004 season.

FOR THE RECORD… The Otter women's soccer record for wins at the NCAA level is eight (8–9–0) during the 2012 season. The all–time record of 11 came twice (2002, 2003) during CSUMB's NAIA era.

KEEP IT CLEAN… The Otter defense pitched its fifth shutout of the season in Friday's 3–0 win at San Francisco State. That mark ties for No. 5 on the CSUMB single season list. The Otters set the record with eight clean sheets during the 2018 season.

A 10–SPOT… With two goals in Friday's 3–0 win at San Francisco State, Sierra Levy became the 21st player in Otter women's soccer history to record 10 points in a season. The last Otters to score 10 points in a season were Kristen Womack (20) and Reagan Porteous (15) during the 2015 season.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… GOALS: Sierra Levy 2; ASSISTS: Alexandra Diaz/Gabby Pejovich 1; POINTS: Sierra Levy 4; SHOTS: Sahana Bojorquez 6; SAVES: Alyson Schade 3.

THE LAST WORD… "It was fun to see us get back on track today. The game was an extension of a good week of training and I'm happy for the team. We had a great attacking mentality and plan to continue on that track for the rest of conference play." – CSUMB Head Coach Laura VanWart

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will complete the long trip up the coast with a visit to Humboldt State Sunday (Oct. 20). The women will kickoff at 2 p.m. as the second match of a men's/women's doubleheader.
