Second Quarter Run Lifts Pomona Over Otters, 85–65

Yolanda Ealy scores 18, Bri Tucker adds 15, Chyna Dews passes 7 assists

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay junior Yolanda Ealy (Long Beach Poly/L.A. Valley College) and senior Brianna Tucker (Clovis North HS) each poured in season highs, but it wasn't enough to keep #21 ranked Cal Poly Pomona from taking an 85–65 win Thursday night in The Kelp Bed.

Ealy scored 18 points, eclipsing her Otter high of 14 set in the season opener versus Central Washington. She hit 18 thanks to season bests in both field goals (5) and free throws (8) made.

The more impressive performance, however, came from Tucker, whose 15 points just missed her career high of 17 points while seeing her first extended minutes since returning from a year–long injury on Jan. 10. In fact, Tucker set a season–high in every statistical category Thursday night while making her sixth appearance of 2018–19.

As for the game itself, the Otters stayed close for the first 15 minutes, tying the game one final time at 20–20 on a Camille Parker (Alta Loma HS) jumper with 5:43 remaining in the first half. Three minutes later, however, the Broncos put the finishing touches on an 11–0 run that gave them a 31–20 advantage.

CSUMB never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Madeline Weight knocked down a jumper to give the Broncos a 76–55 lead with 3:53 to play.

TOP 10 TUCKER… Brianna Tucker knocked down four 3–point field goals Thursday evening to bring her career total to 56, tying Alma Lopez (2007–08) for No. 9 on the CSUMB career list. She vaulted past Stephanie Sack, Tess Soracco and Veronica Williams all in one night.

YO! IT'S YOLANDA… Yolanda Ealy's 18–point effort Thursday night represented not only a personal season high, but also the most points scored by an Otter not named Jordana Price this season. It marked the fourth time this season that Ealy has led the team in scoring as well as her eighth game scoring in double figures.

PRICE INCHES CLOSER TO 400… Jordana Price scored nine points Thursday versus Cal Poly Pomona, bringing her career total to 391. She is looking to become the 26th player in Otter history to score 400 points in a career.

CHYNA LENDS A HAND… Chyna Dews passed a personal (and Otter team) season–high seven assists Thursday night versus Cal Poly Pomona. She will enter play Saturday ranked No. 9 in the CCAA at 3.4 assists per game.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT…POINTS: Yolanda Ealy 18; REBOUNDS: Yolanda Ealy/Camille Parker 6; ASSISTS: Chyna Dews 7; BLOCKS: Jenna Viss 1; STEALS: Camille Parker 2.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their brief 2–game homestand by hosting Cal State San Bernardino Saturday. Tipoff is at 1 p.m. as the opener of mens/women's doubleheader action.
