TURLOCK, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team couldn't keep the momentum going from Saturday night's 9–1, run–rule victory over Western Oregon, dropping a pair of games Sunday to close its Tournament of Champions slate Sunday at the Pedretti Sports Complex. The Otters fell to Montana State Billings 5–4 in the afternoon and 9–2 to Hawaii–Hilo in the evening's final game.
CSUMB nearly pulled off a huge comeback against Billings, scoring three time and bringing the potential winning run to the plate in the seventh inning before the rally stalled. The Otters overcame and early 2–0 deficit to tie the game at 2–2 against Hilo before the Vulcans scored six times in the bottom fifth to break the game open.
Joanna Perruccio (Cerritos College) led the Otter offense with three hits Sunday, including a double against Hilo.
Alyssa Burt added two hits and a double in the Hilo game.
Jayme Stark had two hits against Billings while
Savanna Salyer Kovacs drove in a pair versus the Yellowjackets.
The Otters return home for the first time in a month when the welcome Cal State San Bernardino to the Otter Sports Complex for a 4–game series beginning Mar. 30.
