Keaton Leaves Indelible Mark, Takes Rebounding Record In Final Game

Courtney Keaton grabs 16 boards to claim MB’s single–season rebound record (271) in 64–52 loss at Stanislaus

TURLOCK, Calif. — Senior forward Courtney Keaton (Bishop Montgomery HS) ended her collegiate career in a blaze of glory, grabbing 16 rebounds to break the Cal State Monterey Bay season record with 271 boards in CSUMB's 64–52 loss at Stanislaus State Saturday night in Fitzpatrick Arena.

Keaton needed exactly 16 rebounds to break to mark of 270 set by Johanna Mahoney during the 2004 season, CSUMB's last at the NAIA level. Not only did she break that rebounding mark, she added 11 points to cap her career with four consecutive double–doubles.

CSUMB also got 16 points and seven assists from senior guard Aubri Smith (Ventura College/Buena HS) in her final collegiate game, but it wasn't enough to overcome a shaky start or a major lull to end the third and begin the fourth quarter.

The Otters trailed 15–8 after one period but rallied to within 32–28 at the half. It was still a 4–point game (43–39) with less than 90 seconds remaining in the third quarter when Stanislaus needed just four minutes to embark on a 15–0 run that put the game on ice.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Stanislaus gained possession of the ball following an Otter turnover leading 64–52 with 56 seconds remaining.

ON THE REBOUND… In addition to breaking the CSUMB single–season rebounding record, Courtney Keaton hangs up her Otter uniform with 529 career boards, good for No. 4 on the CSUMB all–time list.

HIGH FIVE FOR AUBRI… With seven assists Saturday night, Aubri Smith passed Nikki Beckman for No. 5 on the CSUMB career assist list with 175. Beckman ended her career with 173.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Aubri Smith 16; REBOUNDS: Courtney Keaton 16; ASSISTS: Aubri Smith 7; BLOCKS: Courtney Keaton 3; STEALS: Jessie Evans/Aubri Smith 2.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… Saturday's game concludes the 2017–18 Otter women's basketball season.
