Late Run Lifts Notre Dame de Namur Past Otters, 55–49

Otters lead for three quarters but can’t hold on late

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay came tantalizingly close to its first win of the season, only to see a late spurt by Notre Dame de Namur give the Argonauts just enough separation to win 55–49 Tuesday night in The Kelp Bed.

The Otters led at the end of each of the first three quarters, but couldn't quite make their way back from a 5–0 NDNU run midway through the fourth that broke a 41–41 tie. CSUMB kept the game close and appeared to draw even in the final 30 seconds, but a late foul call on what the Otters thought a clean steal negated an uncontested CSUMB layup with NDNU up 51–49.

The Argonauts made four free throws in the final 22 seconds to seal the win.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Julia Micallef missed a jumper with eight seconds remaining and NDNU leading 55–49.

TAKE THEM, THEY'RE FREE… The Otters were sizzling from the stripe Tuesday night, knocking down 12 of 13 attempts. The .923 percentage ranks No. 6 in the Otter record book.

MORE HOT FREE THROW SHOOTING… The Otters made 16 of 18 free throws (.889) in their opener versus Central Washington. That mark now ranks No. 9 on the CSUMB single–game list.

ON THE REBOUND… The Otters out–rebounded the Argonauts 35–25 Tuesday night. It marks the first time in 12 games dating back to last season that the Otters have won the rebounding battle.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Camille Parker 13; REBOUNDS: Kim McKinney/Siana Fields 7; ASSISTS: Siana Fields/Jordana Price 4; BLOCKS: Kim McKinney 1; STEALS: Chyna Dews/Camille Parker 3.

THE LAST WORD… "This was a tough one. We have to be able to finish. I think we executed well, we just have to finish and want to get stops defensively. We fought…just have to finish." – CSUMB Head Coach CJ Pace

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will open CCAA play Friday (Nov. 23) with a trip to the other Bay area to take on San Francisco State. Tipoff will be at 5:30 p.m. as the opener of men's/women's doubleheader action.
