Busch Earns Shutout, Allexxis Lends A Hand In 1–0 Win At CSUDH

Stephanie Busch recofrds fifth shutout, Allexxis Hand scores first collegiate goal

CARSON, Calif. — Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Busch (Santa Cruz HS) saved a second half penalty to make a first half marker by sophomore Allexxis Hand (Hacienda Heights/Los Altos HS) stand up in a 1–0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday at Toro Stadium.

The matched climaexed in when CSUMB (5–4–1, 2–3 CCAA) fouled a Toro forward in the box in the 70th minute, leading to the penalty kick. Kelly Almazan tried to sneak a shot inside the right post, but Busch out–guessed her, steering the effort around the post to deny the Toros their
best scoring chance.

The Otters capitalized on their best chance when Sahana Bojorquez (Las Vegas, Nev./Spring Valley HS) rang one off the crossbar in the 36th minute. Hand out–raced the Toro defense to the rebound then out–fought goalkeeper Ruth–Maria Soto for the loose ball to poke the ball home.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Stephanie Busch saved a soft shot by Vanessa Campos in the 84th minute. It was the game's final shot.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB… Allexxis Hand scored her first collegiate goal in Thursday's win at Cal State Dominguez Hills. It was her first goal (to go along with three assists) in 17 collegiate appearances.

KEEP IT CLEAN… Stephanie Busch recorded her fifth shutout in 10 outings this season. It is the best 10–match run by an Otter keeper in program history.

KEEP IT CLEAN, PART II… Stephanie Busch's five shutouts are tied for No. 2 on the CSUMB single–season list. Melissa Moen set the record with six clean sheets in 2003.

ALMOST SPOTLESS… By allowing just a single goal, the Otter defense has allowed either one or no goals nine times in the first 10 matches. The closest any previous Otter team came was 2017, when the Otter defense accomplished that feat in six of the first seven games.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… GOALS: Allexxis Hand 1; ASSISTS: Sahana Bojorquez 1; POINTS: Allexis Hand 2; SHOTS: Sahana Bojorquez/Jasmine Safarians 3; SAVES: Stephanie Busch 9.

THE LAST WORD… "The team got a result in a very challenging environment tonight. Sometimes soccer isn't pretty, and tonight it was not. That being said we battled, won balls in the air, and scored a great goal. " – CSUMB Head Coach Laura VanWart

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their SoCal sojourn with a match at Cal State L.A. Saturday (Oct. 6). Kickoff will be at 11:30 a.m. as the opener of men's/women's doubleheader action.
