Otters Surrender Three Goals at Cal Poly Pomona

Two Otters record two shots each

POMONA, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team could not find a flow of offense and had trouble keeping Cal Poly Pomona off the scoreboard on Sunday afternoon despite being tactically sound throughout the game. The Otters allowed two goals in the first half and one more in the beginning the second half en route to a 3-0 loss at Kellogg Field.

Silly fouls in the first half gave the Broncos chances at scores including a free kick goal by Jimmie Villalobos in give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Villalobos scored again at the 43:13 mark on  header into the middle of the net. Pomona started the second half with gusto as they scored their third a final goal 1:06 into the half to go up 3-0.

Alex Martinez and Zach Gaspar led the Otter contingent with two shots each in the loss.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN... The Broncos scored their third goal to go up 3-0. The Otters only took one shot in the final 44 minutes.

SCORING DROUGHT... The dry spell continues for the men's soccer team as they haven't scored in over five games.

STAT PACK... SHOTS: Martinez, Gaspar -- 2; SHOTS ON GOAL: Martinez -- 1; SAVES: Jesus Ochoa -- 2

THE FINAL WORD... "I thought we played very well tactically in the first half and stopped them from creating. We keep giving away silly fouls which lead to goals. That's immaturity as a group. If we fix that, then I think results will come." Head Coach Shane Carew.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay will stay on the road but stay in Northern California as they battle Cal State East Bay on Wednesday, September 27 under the lights. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
