SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team squared off against Cal State San Bernardino looking to break the streak and get into the win column in CCAA play. However, despite getting 12 shots off to the Coyotes 14, the Otters were unable to score in the 3-0 shutout loss on Friday evening at Premier Field.
San Bernardino got on the board in the 39th minute on an unassisted goal by Tony Lo that was rebounded off a blocked shot. Lo found his second goal of the game four minutes into the second half on strike from 20 yards out. The Otters were unlucky later in the period when a ball was deflected off an Otter player right to a wide open Kevin Aguilar who shot at an open goal, putting CSUSB up 3-0.
After taking two less shots than CSUSB in the first half, the Otters were toe-to-toe with the Coyotes in the second half as both teams tallied seven shots. While CSUMB was credited with double digit shots, including three from
Emmanuel Montion (Los Gatos HS), only one was recorded as on goal.
Â
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN... The Coyotes' Kevin Aguilar netted the third goal of the game, giving the hosts a 3-0 lead. The Otters attempted two more shots in the remaining 12 minutes.
SCORING DROUGHT... Since scoring two goals against Colorado School of Mines on Sept. 9 the Otters have not found the back of the net in four consecutive games (371 minutes).
NOT FOR A LACK OF TRYING... Despite the scoring drought, the Otters have recorded double digit shot totals in four consecutive games with games of 10 at Regis, 14 vs. Sonoma State, 13 vs Humboldt State and 12 at San Bernardino.
STAT PACK... SHOTS: Montion -- 3;
SHOTS ON GOAL: Montion -- 1;
SAVES: Jesus Ochoa (James C. Enochs HS) -- 2
THE FINAL WORD... "I thought today we looked very immature in possession and even though that comes with a young team, we need to be better with the ball. This is a very tough conference and we are finding out quickly. We hope to bounce back on Sunday."
Head Coach Shane Carew
THEY'VE GOT NEXT... The Otters will head to Pomona on Sunday for a conference tilt with Cal Poly Pomona. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
