Rebollar nets second goal of season

Story Links

SEASIDE, Calif. -- Adrian Rebollar (Watsonville HS) netted his second goal of the season in the 21st minute as the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team earned its first win in a 1-0 shutout over Fresno Pacific on Saturday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

Rebollar received a pass that gave him a free lane to a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. After his initial shot was blocked, he corralled the rebound and found a wide open net to give CSUMB a 1-0 lead. That goal proved to be all the Otters would need as they kept the Sunbirds off the board throughout the full 90 minutes.

The Otters Led FPU in shots 17-11 which included many opportunities at goals in the second half. Rebollar went 1-for-3 on shots on goal. Luis Lopez (De Anza HS) also took three shots while Gary Wheaton (Leland HS) and Jose Gomes (De Anza HS) contributed two.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... Fresno Pacific's Sergio Segura's shot sailed wide right in the 86th minute.

A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING... Today's 1-0 win marks the first win for the Otters over Fresno Pacific in CSUMB's NCAA DII era

A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING PART II... CSUMB Goalkeeper Jesus Ochoa (James C. Enochs HS) made his first start between the pipes and earned his first win and shutout of his collegiate career

STAT PACK... GOALS: Adrian Rebollar -- 20:29 (unassisted) -- Second goal of the season; SHOTS: Rebollar, Lopez -- 3; Saves: Ochoa (CSUMB) -- 2, Timmer (FPU) -- 7

THE LAST WORD... " I was bit worried today since the temperatures were up, but out fitness level was impressive and I think that is a testament to what the guys did all summer. I thought fitness wise we came roaring through in the second half and I'm very pleased." -Head Coach Shane Carew

WHO'S GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay will take off to Colorado for a weekend to face RMAC opponents Colorado School of Mines (Sept. 8) and Regis University (Sept. 10)
