SEASIDE, Calif. — A first–half strike from junior Madison Aguirre (Las Vegas, Nev./Palos Verdes HS) provided just enough offense for the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team to run its unbeaten streak to five matches with a 1–1 tie against Humboldt State Sunday at the Otter Sports Complex. CSUMB improved to 3–1–3 overall and 1–0–1 in CCAA play.

Aguirre's strike, her second of the season, curled wonderfully inside the left post after Dio Ruiz (Oakland Technical HS) stole the ball in the Humboldt defensive third and played a short pass to free up Aguirre at the top of the box.
Humboldt (3–1–1, 0–1–1) earned a share of the spoils when Rachel Herman's toe found the ball amidst a scrum of players inside the penalty area and tapped into an unguarded goal in the 61st minute.

The goal by Aguirre proved to be the only shot the Otters would put on frame in the match. For her part, CSUMB sophomore Alyssa Noh (Aliso Niguel HS) wasn't tested much other, but she did come up with a big save early in overtime when she dove left to deflect Sabine Postma's shot outside the post in what proved to be the final shot on goal in the match.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Alyssa Noh corralled an uncontested ball in the box in the final 10 seconds of overtime.

OTTERS ON A RUN… CSUMB's unbeaten run of five games is its longest at the NCAA level and matches the longest unbeaten streak in program history. The Otters went unbeaten (4–0–1) from Oct. 1–15, 2003 to set the standard.

WE'RE NOT SAYING, WE'RE JUST SAYING… The Otters finished the 2003 season with a record of 11–7–2, the best record in program history.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… GOALS: Madison Aguirre (2); ASSISTS: Dio Ruiz; SHOTS: Five Otters 1; SAVES: Alyssa Noh 4.

THE LAST WORD… "It's a huge credit to the tenacity and the grit of this team to just not give up. We have to make sure to keep out foot on the gas after scoring first and not let the tying goal happen again." – CSUMB Head Coach Laura VanWart

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters begin a 4–match roadtrip with a visit to Southern California to face Cal State San Bernardino Friday (Sept. 22). Kickoff will be at 12:30 p.m. as the opener of men's/women's doubleheader action.
