BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 SEASIDE, Calif. — The record book took a beating Thursday afternoon as the No. 24 ranked Cal State Monterey Bay softball team exploded for 30 runs and 29 hits in a 17–0, 13–3 sweep of visiting Holy Names University at the Otter Sports Complex.

Senior outfielder Sam Luna (Salinas HS/MPC) was the biggest contributor to the deluge, hitting two grand slams in Game 1 to break the CSUMB record and tie the CCAA record with eight RBIs in a single game. The two homers in a game tied the Otter record. She added an RBI triple in the nightcap to finish the afternoon 3-for-4 with four runs and nine RBIs.

Thanks to Luna's effort—and a 3–run home run by senior first baseman Madison Casto (Sunnyvale/Homestead HS)—the Otters tied the school record for runs in a game with 17.

Senior catcher Jenae Coleman (Castaic/Hart HS) took control of the power company in the nightcap. Coleman came off the bench as a pinch hitter and hit a pair of home runs—one inside-the-park and the other a 3-run blast over the scoreboard in left field—to help the Otter rally back from an early 3–run deficit.

Freshman Hayley Fein (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) and sophomore Rosalia Keirns (Claremont HS) combined on a 4–hit shutout in the opener. Keirns pitched three innings of 1–hit, shutout relief to earn the win in Game 2.

GAME 1 WAS OVER WHEN OVER WHEN… Sam Luna's second grand slam of the game made it 12–0 Otters in the second inning.

GAME 2 WAS OVER WHEN OVER WHEN… Jenae Coleman's second home run of the game—this one a 3–run shot—made it 13–0 in the fourth inning.

LEADING OFF… The 17 runs scored in Game 1 tied the school record of 17 set in a 17–4 win over UC–Colorado Springs on Feb. 14, 2015.

ON DECK… Sam Luna's eight RBIs in Game 1 broke the Otter record of six set four times previously, last by Julia Garcia (Ventura College) against Sonoma State on Feb. 11, 2017. Luna tied the CCAA record set twice previously, last by Hailey Stockman of Chico State at Humboldt State on Feb. 26, 2012.

IN THE HOLE… CSUMB won via the run rule for the seventh and eight times in 19 games this season. The Otter record for run rule wins in a season is 12 set in 2015.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… Sam Luna (3x4, 3B, 2 GS HRs (2), 3 R, 9 RBIs); Lusi Stanley (6x6, 3 R, 4 RBIs); Madison Casto (3x5, HR (3), 4 R, 4 RBIs:); Jayme Stark (3x4, 2 2Bs, 4 R, 2 RBIs); Jenae Coleman (2x3, 2 HRs (2), 2 R, 4 RBIs).
