SEASIDE, Calif. — After a pair of shutouts by freshman
Hayley Fein (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) Saturday in San Bernardino, Cal State Monterey Bay softball moved up one spot to No. 24 in this week's NFCA NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll. CSUMB joins fellow CCAA members Humboldt State (1) and Chico State (6) in this week's rankings. UC San Diego is among others receiving votes.
The Otters enter the week 13–4 overall (9–3 CCAA). The 13–4 mark is the second–best start in program history through 17 games, trailing only the 2015 squad which opened 14–3.
CSUMB leads the CCAA and ranks No. 12 nationally in batting average at .360. Leading the offensive onslaught is the double play combination of sophomore second baseman
Courtney Hennings (Amador Valley HS) and junior shortstop
Jayme Stark (La Quinta HS), who rank second and third in the CCAA at .479 and .478 respectively.
The Otters are taking a short break from CCAA play this week to host Pac West Conference rival Holy Names University for a pair of games Thursday, Mar. 9 at the Otter Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
The Otters return to CCAA action at perennial contender UC San Diego Mar. 16–17.
