SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team used a pair of run–rule wins over Holy Names University last week to move up three spots in this week's NFCA NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll. CSUMB is No. 21 and joins fellow CCAA members Humboldt State (1) and Chico State (7) in this week's rankings.
The Otters enter the week 15–4 overall (9–3 CCAA). The 15–4 mark matches the second–best start in program history through 17 games (2014), trailing only the 2015 squad which opened 16–3.
CSUMB leads the CCAA and ranks No. 4 nationally in batting average at .380. Leading the offensive onslaught is junior shortstop
Jayme Stark (La Quinta HS), who leads the CCAA with a batting average of .500. Sophomore catcher
Lusi Stanley (San Jose/Howard College) ranks No. 2 in the CCAA (.489) while sophomore second baseman
Courtney Hennings (Amador Valley HS) (.442) and senior designated player
Mikal Cuellar (Santa Cruz/Cabrillo College) (.388) rank No. 6 and No. 11 respectively.
The Otters begin a busy stretch of CCAA action in which they'll play 12 conference games in nine days, beginning with a 4–game set at UC San Diego Mar. 16–17. CSUMB returns home to the Otter Sports Complex to host Cal State San Marcos Mar. 24–25.
