Otter Split Doubleheader With East Bay

Ahern earns second win in solid outing

HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team took one of two in doubleheader action on the road on Saturday at Cal State East Bay with the win coming in game one, 7-2.

Jacob Tonascia (San Benito HS) was the star in game one going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Not to be overshadowed was CSUMB starter Jeffrey Ahern (Anderson HS) who had a stellar outing of 6.2 innings of 1-run baseball.

The offense was a different story in game 2 of the twin bill as the Otters recorded three hits that led to three runs in the 5-3 loss. Max Sanderson (Foothill HS), D'Andre Sanchez (La Serna HS), and Myles Hager (Chaminade Prep) collected a hit each. Hager also recorded an RBI in the loss. CSUMB starter Greg Steinbeck (San Benito HS) got the start and was tagged with his first loss of the season (2-1).

LEADING OFF... After splitting today's doubleheader, the Pioneers lead the season series 2-1.

ON DECK... The Otters drew a total of eight walks during today's twin bill including five in the second game.

IN THE HOLE... Tonascia and Hager each hit solo home runs in the first game today; the first big flies of the season for both players

THE LAST WORD... "Jeff Ahern threw really well in game on. He was efficient and kept their offense off balance. It was nice to see our offense support him with some timely hitting. We had a had a bunch of guys come up with some big at-bats. Game two was a tight game, but we couldn't quite break through offensively. We are looking forward to getting back at it tomorrow and we expect it to be another tightly contested ball game." Head Coach Walt White

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay and East Bay will return to the Otter Sports Complex on Sunday, Feb. 26 for the series finalé. First pitch is set for noon.

GO OTTERS!
