Otter Offense Held Quiet by Pioneer Pitching

Granger shines in longest outing of season

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team kicked off its conference season on Friday afternoon against Cal State East Bay. The Otters and Pioneers were locked in a pitchers duel for most of the game as CSUMB starter Bryan Granger (San Benito HS) and CSUEB hurler Alex Vesia went toe-to-toe in the Pioneers 4-0 victory.

The Pioneers scored three of their four runs without the benefit of a hit as six defensive error plagued the Otters. Granger was highlight of the afternoon as the senior right-hander ended with a line of one earned run on one hit with seven strikeouts in seven and two-thirds innings of work. He earned the tough luck loss and moves to 1-2 on the season.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... The Otters went down in order in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Pioneer's Andrew Fernandez struck out the side

LEADING OFF... MB starter Bryan Granger shined in his longest out of the season lasting into the eighth inning. He also set a season-high with seven strikeouts

ON DECK... The Otters now move to 7-4 over and start the CCAA season a 0-1

IN THE HOLE... CSUMB did not have a clean game on the defensive end committing six errors. That ties the mark for second most in a game. The Otters had seven errors in a game three time.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay will head to Hayward, Calif. for a doubleheader against Cal State East Bay on Saturday, Feb. 25. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
