SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Hot–shooting Cal State San Marcos parried an early Monterey Bay rally than kept the Otters at arm's length in the second half to earn a 77–64 win Thursday Night in the CSUSM Sports Center.
Freshman
Kevin Warren (Oakland/St. Mary's HS) scored 17 points and
Julien Ducree (Rancho Cucamonga HS) grabbed seven rebounds to lead CSUMB. Warren and
Jonquis Bouyea (Seaside HS) each passed four assists.
The Otters used an 11–0 run to take their final lead of the night at 17–16 midway through the first half. But San Marcos eased away with a 20–9 spurt of its own to close the half up 10, 36–26.
The Otters never got closer than eight points in the second half.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… A Josh Spiers 3–pointer made it 75–58 San Marcos with 2:25 to play.
TAKING IT'S TOLL… Playing shorthanded continues to take its toll on the Otters late in games. CSUMB is now 3–0 when leading after 35 minutes and 0–3 when trailing with five minutes remaining.
WARREN LEADS IN LEADING… By pacing the Otters with 17 points Thursday night,
Kevin Warren led the team in scoring for the 10th time this season.
Jahvon Johnson is second on that list with six. With two games remaining, Warren is guaranteed to lead the Otters in leading the Otters for the 2016–17 season.
