POMONA, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team got on the board first after a
Max Sanderson (Foothill HS) RBI gave the Otters a 1-0 lead in the third inning of a nonconference game at sixth-ranked Cal Poly Pomona.
However, the Broncos would not back down, scoring twice in the fifth inning to tae a 2-1 lead.
Darren Kriz (Chaminade College Prep) tied the game with an RBI single in the sixth inning but that would be all the offense the Otters would supply.
Pomona came through with two runs late in the game to hand CSUMB a 4-2 loss to begin the series. Reliever
Kyle Brown (Arroyo Grande HS) took the loss.
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... The Otters hit back-to-back fly outs with a runner on first in the top of the ninth to end the inning and the game
LEADING OFF... Bryan Granger made his third start for the Otters but remains 1-0 as he took his second no decision in tonight's game
ON DECK: After outscoring Concordia (Ore.) 41-11, the Otter have scored eight runs in the last two games
IN THE HOLE... No Otter players had more than one hit, but five Otters recorded a hit in tonight's loss
THE LAST WORD... "We pitched well enough to win, but offensively we didn't put enough pressure on their defense. We we had opportunities to produce runs we didn't capitalize."
