Offensive Explosion Leads to Twinbill Sweep of Cavaliers

Otters plate a total of 36 runs

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team scored a total of 36 runs on Saturday during a doubleheader sweep of Concordia University (Ore.) at the Otter Sports Complex.

CSUMB allowed two runs to the Cavaliers in the second inning of game one but that would be only time all day that Concordia would lead. The Otters put a 6-spot up in the fifth and never looked back following that up with innings of three and six to take a 15-4 win in game one.

Game two started with the Otters scoring in the first five innings to amass a 19-4 lead. CSUMB added two runs in the seventh, while CU plated three in the ninth to push the final score to a 21-7 Otter victory.

Starting pitchers Bryan Granger (San Benito HS) and Greg Steinbeck (San Benito HS) earned their first wins of the season, while Ryan Winkler (San Ramon, Calif.) led the team with five RBIs.

LEADING OFF: The Otters plated a total of 21 runs in game two of the doubleheader, however it wasn't a school record. The Otters scored 23 runs last season against Cal Poly Pomona.

ON DECK: Junior Myles Hager (Chaminade HS) broke out of an 0-for-10 slump in game two of the doubleheader with a 3-run big fly the hugged the foul pole. It was Hager's first homerun of the season and first hit of 2017. The infielder continued to have a 3-for-4, 4 RBI, 4 run afternoon at the plate.

IN THE HOLE: Head Coach Walt White used every position player on his roster, putting 24 different guys on the box score. He used seven different pitchers in the twinbill.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT: The Otters and Cavaliers will wrap up the 3-game series on Sunday, Feb. 12. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
