ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team missed a golden opportunity to keep pace in the CCAA Tournament race as CCAA North Division leader Sonoma State pulled out close sets in the first and third en route to a 25–22, 25–15, 26–24 win Friday night in The Wolves Den.
Sonoma saved three set points in the third to rally from a 24–21 deficit. The Seawolves reduced their magic number for clinching the CCAA North Division title to one with the match victory.
Friday night, the Otters couldn't stop an efficient Seawolf offense that hit .320 or better in all three sets.
Samantha Brennan (Huntington Beach HS) came back from injury after missing the last four matches and posted six of her team–high seven kills in the first set.
Ashlynne Armstrong (Norco HS) led the Otters with 11 digs and three aces.
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… a double by Morgan Annala and Amy Trephan completed a 5–0 match–ending run for the Seawolves.

Ashlynne Armstrong collected three aces Friday night, moving her within a single ace of the Otter record for aces in a season. Armstrong will enter Saturday's match at San Francisco State with 32 aces. Rheann Fall (2008) and Dionna Lucas (2010) currently share the No. 10 spot with 33.
