SEASIDE, Calif. — Huge nights from freshman
Koen Sapwell (Adelaide, South Australia/Trinity College Gawler) and senior
Jonquis Bouyea (Seaside HS) led Cal State Monterey Bay to its second road win of the season in an 80–72 victory at Dominican University Sunday night in The Conlan Center.
Sapwell recorded the first 20–point game of his young career by scoring 22. Bouyea, meanwhile, completed the first double–double of his collegiate career by finishing with 10 points and a career–high 10 rebounds.
The teams played to a 29–29 tie in the first half. After five lead changes in the first five minutes after intermission, Sapwell knocked down a 3–pointer to give the Otters a 41–38 they edge would guard jealously over the final 15 minutes.
Another Sapwell three–ball gave CSUMB its first 10–point lead at 74–64 with just more than two minutes remaining. The Otters twice led by 11 down the stretch before the settling on the 8–point final margin.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Jahvon Johnson grabbed the rebound of a missed Penguin 3–pointer with 15 seconds remaining.

A THIEF IN THE NIGHT… Mateo Jones collected five steals Sunday night for his second 5–steal game of the season. He now leads the CCAA by averaging 2.6 steals per game.
