OTTERS vs. TOROS HIGHLIGHTS
SEASIDE, Calif. — It would be easy to argue that the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team deserved at least a share of the spoils in Sunday afternoon's CCAA soccer affair with Cal State Dominguez Hills. But a rocket off the foot of Adam Vargas found the top shelf 3:20 into overtime, allowing the Toros to escape with a 1–0 victory at the Otter Sports Complex.
Dominguez Hills held the run of play early, but the Otters became ascendent as the match wore on and created several dangerous chances lacking only a finishing touch.
They created a pair of corner kicks in the final three minutes of regulation. But their best chance came when Toro goalkeeper Chase Gentry, in a moment of confusion, collided with one of his fullbacks in the 90th minute. The Otters got to the loose ball and found
Edrey Valenica (Overfelt HS/West Valley College) open atop the arc, but he fired high as Gentry scrambled back into position.
The Toros finally broke through after a turnover by the Otters in the offensive third led to a quick counter. After a long carry, Leonardo Nogueira laid a short pass to Vargas 20 yards from goal and his powerful strike gave CSUMB keeper
Jesus Ochoa (Modesto/Enoch HS) no chance.

To be fair, I thought we created a couple of chances to win the game too. The bye week will give our a guys chance to get rested and ready for the last two weeks of the season." —
Shane Carew, CSUMB Head Coach
