Otters Give All Out Effort in 3-3 Draw At Stanislaus

Otters score three times for first time since Aug. 31

TURLOCK, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team played in a game for ages on Friday night at Stanislaus State which saw many close calls but ended in an amazing 3-3 tie.

There was plenty of offense in this game as the team scored a combined six goals. The Warriors got on the board early as Ahmed Mohammed scored his first goal of the season at 17:56 mark. The Otters' Steven Moreno found the equalizer in the 39th minute sending the game to halftime at a 1-1 tie. The offense picked up in the second half as a header by Luis Lopez got the scoring started and gave CSUMB a 2-1 lead. However, goals by Stanislaus in the 70th and 71st minute allow the hosts to regain the lead at 3-2. However, the Otters would not go quietly. Jose Gomes got a nice cross from Edrey Valencia into the box and was able to convert for the third score of the game for CSUMB a 3-3 game.

In overtime, CSUMB found themselves a man down, but the freshman goalkeeper, Jesus Ochoa, made two big saves to keep the Otters alive and leave with a 3-3 draw.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... The clock hit all zeros at the end of the second overtime period with the score tied at 3-3.

JESUS SAVES, AGAIN... The Modesto native proved his worth between the pipes by recording six saves, but none bigger than his two late saves that kept game-winning goals from entering allow CSUMB to earn a point in the 3-3 draw.

A FIRST FOR EVERYTHING... This marks the first tie of the season for the Otters as it comes in the 13th games. CSUMB got it's first tie five games into the 2016 season.

CAN I GET A W?... This is the fifth time CSUMB and Stanislaus have gone the distance to a tie game, the last being in 2014. Unfortunately, the Otters have not found a win against the Warriors since a 2-0 game in Seaside in 2011.

STAT PACK... GOALS: 39:45 - Steven Moreno -2 (Emmanuel Montion, Luis Lopez); 60:06 - Luis Lopez - 1 (Darren Sinclair); 78:19 - Jose Gomes - 1 (Edrey Valencia); SHOTS: Montion -- 5; SHOTS ON GOAL: Montion -- 3; SAVES: Ochoa -- 6

THE FINAL WORD... "A very well earned point against a good team. We showed great character to come back after going 3-2 down. Very proud of a battling display with some good attacking soccer at times." -Head Coach Shane Carew

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... The Otters will be back in action on Sunday, October 22 when they battle Chico State on the road. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.

GO OTTERS!
