Golden Eagles Squeak Past Otters, 1-0

Otters go up a man late but first half marker stands up for L.A.

SEASIDE, Calif. -- One shot proved to be the difference as visiting Cal State L.A. made a first half marker from Robin Lindahl stand for a 1-0 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay Friday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

Lindahl took a simple feed from Steven Eberle and slotted it by a diving Jesus Ochoa (Modesto/Enoch HS) just pass the half-hour mark. Neither keeper was called into action much from that point as the teams combined to put just three shots on frame over the final hour.

CSUMB had a golden opportunity when L.A.'s Kareem Salem drew a straight red card for directing abusive behavior at the referee in the 73rd minute. The Otters kept the territorial advantage for the balance of the match, but shots from Adrian Rebollar (Watsonville HS) and Emmanuel Montion couldn't solve Golden Eagle keeper Steven Barrera in the final 10 minutes.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN: The Golden Eagles cleared an Emmanuel Montion corner kick in the 85th minute. It proved to be CSUMB's last legit scoring opportunity.

WE DON'T LOVE L.A.: Friday's loss ran CSUMB's winless streak versus Cal State L.A. to 12 matches (0-10-2) dating back to the 2006 season.

JESUS SAVES: With two saves, Jesus Ochoa has moved into the CSUMB Top 10 for saves in a season with 37. He is tied with Evan Drake (2012) and Bobby Arteaga (2004) for the No. 10 spot.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT: POINTS: None. GOALS: None. ASSISTS: None. SHOTS: 5 Players 1. SAVES: Jesus Ochoa 2

THE LAST WORD: "I thought we played well, a couple of the guys stepped up to replace a couple injuries. We had a lot more chances in the second half than in the first half adn as the game went on we gathered momentum. We look to get better from this and be ready to go again on Sunday." -- Shane Carew, CSUMB Head Coach

THEY'VE GOT NEXT: The Otters will conclude their brief 2-match homestand Sunday when Cal State Dominguez Hills visits for a 2 p.m. kickoff. It will be the second match of men's/women's doubleheader action.
