CHICO, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team had a rough first half allowing three goals in the first 45 minutes, including an own goal in the 26th minute. The defense played better in the second half by holding the Wildcats to one goal en route to a 4-0 loss in its final road game of the season.
Chico State wasted no time in putting a goal on the board as they took a 1-0 lead 52 seconds into the game. CSUMB had a rare defensive blunder last in the half as a pass attempt back to the goalkeeper was kicked too hard and trickled into the net for an own goal, giving the host Wildcats a 2-0 lead. Eleven minutes later, after a foul in the box, Chico's Pooja Patel converted on a PK chance creating a 3-0 deficit for the Otters. Monterey Bay allow one goal in the second half to Korie Bozart leading to the 4-0 loss.
Haley Nishimoto led the Otters with two shots while
Alyssa Noh recorded four saves in the defeat.
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... Patel netted her third goal of the season to give Chico State a 3-0 lead. CSUMB attempted two shots in the second half.
STAT PACK... SHOTS: Nishimoto -- 2;
SHOTS ON GOAL: Nishimoto -- 2;
SAVES: Noh -- 4
THE FINAL WORD... "It was a tough afternoon. We really put ourselves at a disadvantage taking a corer goal so early. Then, to give up an own goal on a miscue and a PK afterward, that was just too much to dig ourselves out of. It has to be better to win consistently in the CCAA. We need to get back to work."
-Head Coach Laura VanWart.
THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay will come home for the final weekend of the regular season to face Cal State San Marcos and UC San Diego. The cougars will be in town on Thursday, October 26. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
