OTTERS vs. BRONCOS HIGHLIGHTS
SEASIDE, Calif. — The margin for error became even more thin for the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team, which entered Friday night's game against Cal Poly Pomona with just six healthy players. The short–handed Otters made a game of it for 30 minutes before Pomona used its superior numbers to wear them down en route to a 58–42 win in The Kelp Bed.
The Otters tied the game at 20–20 on a
Gregg Polosky (San Ramon Valley HS) 3–point play early in the second half. They were still within four points midway through the period before a Jeremy Dennis layup begat an 11–0 run that gave the Broncos control.
Polosky and fellow sophomore
Matt Bejsovec (Shingle Springs/Ponderosa HS) led the Otters with 10 points apiece. Polosky just missed his third double–double of the season by adding a game–high nine rebounds.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Riley Schaeffer's short jumper made it 54–39 Pomona with 1:33 remaining.
AND THEN THERE WERE SIX… The Otters began the week with eight healthy players but entered the weekend with only six. Freshman
Jahvon Johnson (Clovis North HS) suffered and ankle injury in practice. Redshirt freshman
Carter Johnson (Arcata/St. Bernard's HS) chose to leave the team for personal reasons.
ON THE REBOUND… Although short on numbers, the Otters came up big on the glass Friday night, out–rebounding Pomona 33–27.
Gregg Polosky led the way with nine boards. Freshman guard
Kevin Warren (Oakland/St. Mary's HS) added a season–high eight.
