HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team won its second consecutive match by putting an emphatic finish on a 25–21, 24–26, 25–15, 25–15 win over Notre Dame de Namur Friday afternoon at the West Region Crossover Tournament in Pioneer Gym.
Sophomore outside hitter
Anela Visesio (Seaside HS) enjoyed the best match of her young career with a career–high 20 kills. Junior outside hitter
Maddy Underwood (Spokane/Mead HS) added 11 kills and a career–high 19 digs.
All four sets started close, but the Otters managed to pull away late to earn their three wins. They led 24–22 in the second set before the Argonauts rallied for four consecutive points to win Set 2.
The Otters improved to 2–2 overall with win. NDNU fell to 1–4.
The Match Was Over When… An
Anela Visesio service ace snapped a 9–9 tie in the fourth set. It started a 5–1 Otter run that gave CSUMB the lead for the duration.
Acing The Test… The Otters served 12 aces in Thursday's win. It was the most aces by the Otters since they served 12 in a win over Stanislaus State on Sept. 9, 2014. They also matched the third most aces ever by CSUMB in a 4–set match.
Dig This… CSUMB totalled 88 digs in Thursday's win. That's good for No. 7 on the CSUMB list for a 4–set match. It was their most in a 4–set match since they had 89 in a win at Cal State East Bay on Nov. 13, 2012.
They've Got Next… The Otters continue play at the West Region Crossover with Friday matches against Pac West Conference foes Dominican University (9 a.m.) and Academy of Art (6 p.m.).
