LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team battled Cal State L.A. under the lights at Jesse Owens Track on Friday night as part of the Otters final trip to Southern California.
The Golden Eagles hurt the Otters in both halves, scoring a goal in each to put CSUMB into a 2-0 hole at the 50:55 mark. Despite two shots from
Madison Aguirre (Radford Univ.) and Ashlee Cortez (Trabuco Hills HS), CSUMB could not find the back of the net under the lights in Los Angeles.
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... The Otters got off two shots and a corner kick in the final 3:36, but after
Hannah Kind's (Bakersfield Christian HS) was blocked at the 88:41 mark there was nothing doin'' for CSUMB
SEASON HIGH... In her third start between the pipes,
Victoria Whyte (Lake Travis HS) recorded four saves, leading to her season high. In case you're wondering, she set her career high twice as a freshman when she saved seven balls against San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay.
THE LAST WORD... I was proud of the team's effort tonight. They fought hard against a good Cal State L.A. team. We need to capitalize on our scoring chances on set pieces and be more disciplined on defense. We will take this effort into Sunday's game and execute offensively.
–Erin Reinke, Women's Soccer Head Coach
THEY'VE GOT NEXT... The Otters will take their talents to Carson on Sunday to face the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
GO OTTERS!
