Voloder, DeJong Score; Otters Fall in Overtime on Road

Voloder now has three goals to lead CSUMB through two games

FRESNO, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team battled under the lights against Fresno Pacific on the road on Saturday night and in a back-and-forth game that featured five goals, CSUMB found themselves on the wrong end of the sudden-death overtime.

Adam Voloder (Sydney, Australia) scored his third goal in two games to start the scoring for the Otters as CSUMB led 1-0 going into intermission. After FPU tied it to start the second half, Cameron DeJong (Ventura HS) found the back of the net to give the Otters a 2-1 edge.

However, the Sunbirds found the equalizer in the 67th minute eventually sending the game into overtime in a 2-2 tie. FPU wasted no time in ending it, as the Sunbirds' Gabriel Batista tickled the twine 1:13 in, sending CSUMB home with a 3-2 loss.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... Fresno Pacific's Gabriel Batista scored the game-winning goal 1:13 into the first overtime, giving FPU a 3-2 win

NOTHING HOTTER THAN AN OTTER NAMED VOLODER ... By scoring in tonight's game, Adam Voloder became the first Otter to score at least once in the first two games of the season since Servando Perez in 2013..

QUOTE FROM COACH... "It was a very tough pill to swallow. We need to be able to close out games. The boys effort was there. We need to learn and get better moving forward. Saw a lot of good things on the field though." –Head Coach Rob Cummings

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... The non-conference schedule continues for CSUMB as the Otter will head to San Francisco to take on Academy of Art University next Monday, Sept. 12, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.

HAT TRICK (3 FACTS FROM TONIGHT'S MATCH)
  1. The 1-0 lead at half time marked the first time CSUMB had lead at halftime against FPU
  2. CSUMB fired double digit shots (10) in the first half for the first time since Sept. 27, 2015 against San Francisco State
  3. Otters are now 11-12-24 in overtime games dating back to 2004
