Makshanoff Nets First Goal; Otters Fall to Broncos, 2-1

Makshanoff's goal is her first collegiate score

POMONA, Calif. — In the final game of the weekend, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team went up against a tough Cal Poly Pomona team looking to salvage a win on the road trip.

CSUMB gave up an early goal to the Broncos as the hosts scored 14 seconds into the match. CPP netted its second score in the first half as well putting CSUMB in a 2-0 hole.

The Otters got on board in the 43rd minute off the foot of Kati Makshanoff (La Serna HS) for her first goal of her collegiate career. No goals were scored in the second half as CSUMB could not find the equalizer in the 2-1 loss.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... Madison Aguirre (Radford University) took the Otters final shot at the 85:32 mark. That was the final chance CSUMB would have to try and tie the game.

THE SCORING SPREAD ... With Makshanoff goal this afternoon, she becomes the fourth Otter goal scorer this season.

THE LAST WORD... We are learning the hard way by giving up goals in the first 30 seconds of the game. We need to put two competitive halves together. The second half was much better with our energy and teamwork. However, we need to find consistency in out performances. – Erin Reinke, CSUMB Women's Soccer Head Coach

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... CSUMB will return to Southern California next weekend for match ups against Cal State L.A. (Sept. 30) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (Oct. 2)
