SEASIDE, Calif. —
Taylor Greenwood (Norco HS) scored the biggest goal of her young collegiate career with a second half strike that lifted Cal State Monterey Bay to a 1–0 win over No. 13 Chico State Sunday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.
Greenwood beat a Chico defender to a long ball to create a 1v1 with Wildcat goalkeeper Caitlyn Duval. Duval came way off her line to challenge, but a composed finish from the Otter sophomore tucked the ball neatly inside the right post from the top of the box.
To its credit, Chico controlled play for much of the match, out–shooting the Otters 27–5. But the Wildcats had no answer for freshman goalkeeper
Alyssa Noh (Aliso Niguel HS), who made 13 saves for her second consecutive clean sheet.
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… The Otter defense blocked Jamie Ikeda's shot in the 87th minute. It was the final shot the Wildcats would mange.
ALYSSA SAYS "NOH"… Freshman goalkeeper
Alyssa Noh set the CSUMB match record by making 13 saves in Sunday's win over Chico State. She smashed the previous mark of eight saves by Lily Garza versus Cal Poly Pomona in 2014.
SHE GIVES UP JACK BACK–TO–BACK… Alyssa Noh tossed her second consecutive shutout with Sunday's 1–0 win over Chico State. It's worth noting that no Otter team (let alone goalkeeper) has ever posted three consecutive shutouts.
A BIG FISH, BUT NOT THE BIGGEST… Sunday's win over No. 13 Chico State was indeed a big win for the Otters, but not the biggest in their history. CSUMB knocked off then No. 3 ranked Cal State Stanislaus 1–0 on Sept. 28, 2014.
THE LAST WORD… "The first half our energy and fight wasn't there. Second half was much better as we looked like we wanted to win the game. Miranda gave a good ball to Taylor and Taylor stepped up. Good momentum to going into next weekend." —
CSUMB Head Coach Erin Reinke
THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters open the first of two consecutive trips to Southern California when they play at Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, Sept. 23.
GO OTTERS!
