SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team peppered the Academy of Art goal area, recording 22 shots in the 93:19 game on Friday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.
Despite the high shot volume, the match remained scoreless at the end of regulation. However, 3:19 into overtime,
Ashlee Cortez (Trabuco Hills HS) was able to redirect a shot from
Madison Aguirre (Radford University) that crossed into the left corner of the goal giving the Otters a 1–0 over time win.
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... Cortez was able to redirect Aguirre's shot into the net in the fourth minute of overtime
THE HOT FOOT... Both
Taylor Greenwood (Norco HS) and Aguirre recorded six shots, career highs for both. Not to mention, four of Aguirre's six shots were on goal
AT THE TOP... With the game winner this afternoon, Cortez is now tied with
Hannah Kind (Bakersfield Christian HS) for the team lead with two goals.
22 SHOTS!... The stats are not a typo. The Otters recorded a total of 22 shots this afternoon. That mark is the second-most in a game in CSUMB women's soccer history.
BRICK WALL... Freshman goalkeeper
Alyssa Noh (Aliso Niguel HS) recorded five saves in her third collegiate game. This is also her first career shutout.
THEY'VE GOT NEXT... CSUMB will remain at home this weekend as conference foe, Chico State, is set to visit on Sunday, September 18. Kickoff is set for 11:30 a.m.
