BOX SCORE 2 SEASIDE, Calif. — No. 25 Cal State Monterey Bay's defense of its two consecutive CCAA softball titles began on a sour note as No. 13 Humboldt State swept a conference-opening doubleheader, 7–3, and 5–1 Friday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.
Humboldt (7–1–1, 2–0 CCAA) used early home runs from Tiffany Hollingsworth and Breonna Bejaran to offset a late 3–run blast from
Bianca Noriega in the opener. In the nightcap, Madison Williams fanned 11 and made three fourth inning unearned runs stand up.
An RBI single from Noriega cashed in a leadoff double by
Anneliese Lopez in the sixth inning to account for the only Otter run.
Noriega finished the day 3-for-6 with a homer and four RBIs to lead the Otter offense. She ran her current hitting streak to eight games.
Courtney Varela (2-for-7) was the only other Otter to hit safely in both games. Freshman
Rosalia Keirns made her first collegiate appearance in the circle, allowing two runs in five innings of relief in the first game.
CSUMB (5-4, 0-2) and Humboldt will close their 4-game series with a pair Saturday at the Otter Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
GO OTTERS!
