OTTERS vs. COYOTES HIGHLIGHTS
SEASIDE, Calif. — Nationally–ranked Cal State San Bernardino got off to a blistering start then rallied from big early deficits twice to finish a 25–9, 25–22, 25–22 win over Cal State Monterey Bay Friday night in The Kelp Bed.
The Coyotes hit .455 and sided out at an 89 percent clip to roll in the opening set. For their part, the Otters didn't roll over, jumping to a 9–3 lead in the second set and an 11–3 lead in the third before San Bernardino rallied twice. The Coyotes caught CSUMB at 21–21 in the second and 22–22 at the third before holding on for the final two wins.
Anela Visesio (Seaside HS) led CSUMB with 12 kills.
Maddy Underwood (Spokane, Wash./Mead HS) collected a match–high 18 digs.
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Abbey Vollkommer went to the service line with San Bernardino trailing 22–20 in the third. She never relinquished the ball, serving five consecutive points to complete the comeback and seal the match.
PLAYOFF PICTURE… Though a win over San Bernardino would have been huge for the Otters, they did receive some unexpected help Friday night when Cal State San Marcos upset Stanislaus State in Turlock and Cal Poly Pomona upset Cal State East Bay in Hayward. CSUMB needs to win out but needs no major upsets around the league to earn a spot in the CCAA Tournament..
DIG THIS… Maddy Underwood's 18 digs Friday night were her personal high for a 3–set match. Her performance comes on the heels of a career–high 24–dig performance at Cal State East Bay last week.
