Hill's Double-Double Not Enough in Loss to Penguins

Hill records third double-double in a row

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.McKenna Hill (Ventura, Calif.) led the Otters with a 12 point, 12 rebound double-double, but the Cal State women's basketball came up short in a 66-70 loss at the hands of Dominican University at the Conlan Center on Tuesday night.

CSUMB won the first quarter 16-9, but could not win the other three allowing the Penguins to score 20 plus points in two of the final three periods. The Otters had trouble getting into the paint as MB was outscored under the basket, 40-16. The Otters also took 34 three pointers to Dominican's 12, shooting 38 percent from beyond the arc.

Victoria Dorn (Marina, Calif.) also chipped in 12 points while Alexa Sperling (Clovis, Calif.) contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

THE MATCH WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… The Otters remained in the game into the final seconds, however, CSUMB could not get a shot off in the final four seconds, leading to the four point loss

DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE: Hill's 12 point, 12 rebound evening makes it her third double-double of the season in the last three games. She was two points short of one back on Nov. 11 against Concordia (OR).

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Hill, Dorn -- 12; REBOUNDS: Hill -- 12; ASSISTS: Aubri Smith (Ventura, Calif.) -- 7; BLOCKS: Hill, Sperling, Courtney Keaton (Los Angeles, Calif.), Emily Hardin (Porterville, Calif.) -- 1; STEALS: Smith -- 3.

THE LAST WORD… "I think their zone caused us to shoot too many outside shots. We lacked inside attack. Defensively we were weak in stretches that allowed them to make runs and we were not able to counter. We will look to clean up some of the things we didn't do well tonight for the conference opener on Friday." – CSUMB Head Coach Kerri Nakamoto

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… Cal State Monterey Bay opens the CCAA season in the Kelp Bed on Friday (Dec. 2) against Bay Area foe, Cal State East Bay. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
