ARCATA, Calif. — A season built with an eye to the future ended in epic fashion as the Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team rallied to force a fifth set before falling to Humboldt State 16–25, 25–20, 25–19, 27–29, 15–9 Saturday night in Lumberjack Arena.
Sophomore
Anela Visesio (Seaside HS) capped her season in style by putting down a career–high 22 kills to lead both teams.
Maddy Underwood (Spokane, Wash./Mead HS) and
Chandler McKean (Visalia/Redwood HS) also reached double figures with 13 and 10 kills respectively.
Underwood added 12 digs for her eighth double–double of the season.
Whitney Hirst (Huntington Beach/Edison HS) joined her with a 49-assist, 11-dig double–double of her own.
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… After consecutive kills by
Anela Visesio pulled the Otters back to within 12–9 in the fifth, Nicole Bewley killed three consecutive balls to stem the Otter tide and finish the match.
CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK… The Otters totalled a season–high 24 block assists Saturday night. That mark ranks No. 6 on the CSUMB all–time list for block assists in a match.
CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK II… Junior setter
Whitney Hirst collected seven blocks of her own in Saturday's match. That is an Otter match record for blocks by a setter.
CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK III… Sophomore middle blocker
Chandler McKean had six of CSUMB's 24 block assists Saturday, giving her 71 for the season. That mark ranks No. 4 in the Otter season record book.
