SEASIDE, Calif. — Back at the Otter Sports Complex for the final three game of the 2016 season, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team welcomed Holy Names to Seaside for a nonconference game on Thursday afternoon.
CSUMB waited until late in each half to find their goals. At the 42:20 mark, the Otters were awarded a penalty kick as
Jonathan Ayala (Ygnacio Valley High School) was fouled in the box.
Alejandro Garcia (Oxnard College) used his right foot to slot the PK into left net as the goalkeeper guessed wrong, giving CSUMB a 1-0 lead at intermission
The Otters found their second score with 37 seconds remaining in the game when
Alejandro Arreola (West Valley College) sqeaked one in past the goalie on the right side.
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... Arreola scored the Otters' second goal of the game with 37 seconds left in the game, which left no hope for the Hawks to dig out of the two-goal deficit.
CONSIDER IT A STREAK!... This is the first time since Sept. 27 and Oct. 2, 2015 that the Otters have won back-to-back games. Go forward one more game in the 2015 season and you have the last time CSUMB won three games in a row.
BRING ON THE WEST... In four nonconference games this season, the Otters are an impressive 3-1 with wins against Notre Dame de Namur, Academy of Art and Holy Names.
THEY'VE GOT NEXT... CSUMB will have this weekend off before playing the final two games of the conference season next Thursday (Oct. 27) and Saturday (Oct. 29). Stanislaus State will come to town on Thursday for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
GO OTTERS!
