ARCATA, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team battled the elements and the Humboldt State Lumberjacks in a rainy contest on Sunday afternoon. The two teams combined for 13 total shots and remained scoreless for 89:36.
However, with 24 seconds remaining on the clock, Bridget Daley of HSU was able to sneak one past
Christen Silkey (Sonoma Valley HS) for the game-winning goal.
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... Daley found the back of the net for the Lumberjacks at the 89:36 mark as the last recorded stat of the game. That goal gave HSU the 1-0 win. CSUMB took its last shot in the 81st minute on a header by
Valeria Tellez (Salinas HS)
HERE'S A FIRST... CSUMB goalkeeper Silkey made her first start and appearance between the pipes since October 2, 2015, ironically against Humboldt State in Seaside, Calif. She recorded three saves in toady's game.
THE LAST WORD... We did the best we could today in the rainy weather. We need to learn how to compete and to do the basic things on the field for 90 minutes as a team and in each position. We will look to make those adjustments for next weekend.
–Erin Reinke, Women's Soccer Head Coach
THEY'VE GOT NEXT...The Otters will return home for the remainder of the season and will kick off the 3-game home stand with a nonconference tilt against UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, October 22. Kickoff is set for noon.
GO OTTERS!
