ARCATA, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team did not let the wet weather deter it from getting its first CCAA win of the season on Sunday afternoon against Humboldt State.
The Otters played from behind but found the equalizer off the foot of
Adam Voloder (Sydney, Australia) in the 36th minute for his fourth goal of the season. After going into the intermission tied at 1-1, freshman
Jonathan Cox (San Ramon Valley HS) found the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career to give CSUMB a 2-1 edge in the 55th minute.
The CSUMB defense held on securing the 2-1 win on the road.
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... The Otters took the lead at the 54:17 mark and held the HSU offense to one shot in the final 65:43
OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE SPECTRUM... With his fourth goal of the season, Voloder now leads the Otter offense in that category. On the other hand, Cox scored the first of his career and became the eighth Otter to score a goal this season
PEPPERED... The Otters peppered the HSU goalkeepers with 19 shots in today's contest. The Otters had not had that many shots since they had 19 against Cal State Dominguez Hills back on October 12, 2014.
TARGET PRACTICE... Along with its 19 shots, 15 of the shots were on target. The 15 shots on goal tie for the most in Otter history since they had 15 against Saint Martin's on October 8, 2007
THE LAST WORD... It was a great team win. Humboldt is a good team, but today we dictated the play. Today's performance was a fun one to watch on both ends of the ball. We will now get ready for Holy Names on Thursday.
–Rob Cummings, Men's Soccer Head Coach
THEY'VE GOT NEXT...The Otters will return home for the remainder of the season and will kickoff the final 3 games with a nonconference tilt against Holy Names on Thursday, October 20 at 3:00 p.m.
GO OTTERS!
