PETALUMA, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team went out on its final road trip of the season as they headed north to battle Sonoma State on Friday at East Washington Park in Petaluma, Calif.
The Otters found themselves in a 2-0 hole by the time Sophomore
Michael Maul (San Ramon Valley HS) netted his second goal of the season in the 72nd minute, cutting the CSUMB deficit in half. However, the equalizer did not come for the Otters despite a 13 shot outing for CSUMB including two from Maul and
Jonathan Ayala (Ygnacio Valley HS).
THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... The Otters got off three shots eight seconds apart but it was Maul who took the Otters final attempt at tying the game at the 81:48 mark. The shot went wide right.
FIRING SQUAD... Over the last three games, CSUMB has taken 41 shots and out shot their opponent in two of the three games.
THE LAST WORD... Tough game today against a good Sonoma team. We had moments of being the better tam and never stopped working. We had them on their heals at the end of the game, we just couldn't equalize. I am definitely proud of the effort. We look towards Sunday.
–Rob Cummings, Head Coach
THEY'VE GOT NEXT... The Otters will head even farther North for Sunday's game at Humboldt State. The men will switch gears and get the afternoon kickoff set for 2:00 p.m.
GO OTTERS!
