SEASIDE, Calif. — There is no time limit in volleyball. That's a rule the 2016 Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team keeps using to its advantage. Tuesday night, the Otters rallied from behind to win in five sets for the second consecutive match, this time dispatching Humboldt State 11–25, 25–17, 26–28, 25–23, 15–11 in The Kelp Bed.
Led by a record–tying six aces from sophomore
Paige Burrell (Ripon HS/Nyack College), the Otters tied a school record with 14 aces Tuesday night. They needed the strong service game to counter the Lumberjack duo of Hayden Symone and Nicole Bewley, who led all attackers with 17 and 16 kills respectively.
Anela Visesio (Seaside HS) led the Otters with 13 kills and
Maddy Underwood (Spokane, Wash./Mead HS) added 12 kills while sharing the team lead in digs with
Alá Olson (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River HS) at 17.
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Maddy Underwood's 12th kill of the evening made it 13–9 in the fifth set. A service error got the Otters to match point, where a pair of Lumberjack attackers collided trying to hit a downball to seal the win..

THE LAST WORD… "The ironic part is that our focus today was on the first 10 points of the game, but that didn't go so well. So, like anything in life, we just had to come with a backup plan. I thought once everybody calmed down, everything started to iron out a little bit." —
CSUMB Head Coach Moe Melhart.
THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters continue their 3–match homestand by hosting CCAA North Division leader Chico State Friday (Oct. 14) at 7 p.m. CSUMB will close the homestand Saturday vs. Stanislaus State.
