SEASIDE, Calif. -- In its final nonconference game of the season, the Cal State Monterey Bay Women's Soccer team was able to pull out in front of Fresno Pacific early and never look back. Two first time goal scorers helped lead the Otters to the 2–0 victory over the Sunbirds on Wednesday evening at the Otter Sports Complex.
In the seventh minute it was
Hannah Kind (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian HS) who got the Otters on the board with her first goal of the season, giving CSUMB a 1–0 edge.
The second half started with a barrage of shots from FPU players in what seemed to be an endless amount of time on the CSUMB side of the field. However, on a counter attack, a pass from
Sierra Townsend (Glendora, Calif./St. Lucy's Priory) found
Regan Porteous (Lodi, Calif./St. Mary's HS) who was able to slot the ball into the left side of the net. The goal gave the Otters some insurance as FPU continued to pressure the CSUMB box.
Defense became the key as
Victoria Whyte (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis HS) made clutch save after clutch save, totaling five in all.
The Otters end their nonconference season with an even .500 record at 3–3. Monterey Bay will continue its CCAA schedule on Sunday at 2 p.m. when San Francisco State visits the Otter Sports Complex.
GO OTTERS!
